Stress is the underlying cause of almost all problems in the body. Physical, Chemical and Emotional stresses can have extremely negative effects on the body. Job related stress, family, traffic, poor diet, money, pollution, pain, prescription drugs, alcohol, depression and lack of proper nutrition are some of the many stresses that can have a negative effect on the body. These everyday-ongoing stresses accumulate and go unrelieved, not allowing the body to go back to a normal rested state where healing, growing and regeneration take place. After years of unrelieved stress the body and mind become outereactive and disconnected, very similar to the Emergency Mode known as Fight or Flight.

Fight or Flight is a natural response the body shifts to when the need to deal with a highly emotional or physical stressed state occurs. There are over 100 physiological changes during Fight or Flight including increased heart rate, release of adrenaline and cortisol, hyperventilation and decreased immune and digestive function. Fight or Flight can be a life or death situation and calls for the body to take action. When the stressful event has passed it’s our body’s natural desire to go back to a normal rested state.
The way we react to everyday stress is the problem. Our bodies are not as well equipped to deal with this type of perpetual stress. An inappropriate or prolonged stress state is the result of everyday stress which changes and slows down regular functions of the body. When in a prolonged stress state, the body shifts into the left or right brain hemisphere, this is a natural function during Fight or Flight but very unnatural for long durations. At this time the body is not at whole brain function, leaving the body and mind more vulnerable to stress. This is your body's natural way of defending itself from what it feels is a true threat, “Everyday Stress”. The left hemisphere of the brain controls the muscles on the right side of the body and the right hemisphere controls the muscles on the left side of the body. When shifted into the dominate hemisphere the body loses access to the opposite hemisphere, at this point you can see and feel muscular and skeletal imbalances. The muscles of the body have contracted on the side opposite of the dominate brain hemisphere leaving a physical-structural shortage. This shift into an inappropriate stress state is a gradual progression over years leaving most individuals unaware of there muscular and skeletal imbalances.
Everyday ongoing stress physiologically causes muscle tension. Muscle tension causes structural distortions. Ultimately the body begins to rob itself of energy to fight this battle against imbalance. The body’s innate wisdom knows exactly how much energy it takes to perform each and every function. When fighting to stay balanced in an imbalanced state the body begins to deprive other bodily functions of this life energy. Functions like the immune system and digestive system are left with less energy to function leaving the body weaker to fight off pain, sickness and disease.
The answer is to get the body back to its original state of balance, to reconnect back to the source of power. The body has an incredible potential for growth, healing and regeneration when given the opportunity. We were all given that power and to have a zest for life. The body and mind are not meant to be in that inappropriate energy wasting state.

| Corrective Changes |
| Chemical: Muscles and other connective tissues store toxins. As tension is reduced a toxic overload may occur resulting in nausea, flu-like symptoms, or a need for more sleep. Your body is simply getting rid of unwanted substances in your cells and tissue spaces. Make sure to drink plenty of water to eliminate these toxins faster. |
| Muscular: After an alignment, weak muscles regain strength and the overly tense muscles become more relaxed. Remember this was a gradual progression into this tense, imbalanced state. You may experience a slight discomfort because the muscles have been contracted for a long period of time. A gentle massage or a hot shower will help. |
| Vascular: Imagine a tight muscle squeezing blood vessels, restricting blood flow to areas of the body. When tension levels drop, vascular pressures change for the better. This adaptation process is usually very short. When there has been severe tension in the neck over a long period of time, a full feeling or a mild throbbing sensation in the head might be noticeable. This is only temporary and completely normal, pressures are just correcting themselves. |
| Mental: Alignments increase mental focus and clarity. A higher level of brain function occurs when you come out of an improper laterized state. Concentration improves, and memory is enhanced. |
